Q10 for the skin

The antioxidant Q10 can be found in many skincare products. Because, the enzyme should prevent skin aging. But what is Q10 precisely and how does it work?

Q10 is an enzyme that we have all heard of at least once in our lives. The substance is often mentioned as an ingredient in a beauty product, such as a night cream for example, because of the positive effects that the enzyme would have on the skin.

What is Q10 exactly?

The coenzyme Q10 is also known in the scientific and medical world as ubiquinone. Q10 is a substance that the body produces itself and is found in (almost) all body cells. Q10 plays an important role in the energy production of cells and as an antioxidant the substance is strong in tackling free radicals.

What does Q10 do for the skin?

Q10 is often associated with counteracting the effects of skin aging[1]. They tackle the free radicals that damage the skin cells and cause the skin to age in this way. As you get older and your skin has to cope with various external factors, the amount of Q10 naturally present in the body decreases. This decrease in Q10 leads to a skin that starts to look older and which loses its shine. But, no worries, the amount of Q10 can be supplemented in various ways, from the inside and from the outside.

Lubricate Q10 and take Q10

The substance, Q10, is first of all very well absorbed through the skin. Using a cream with Q10 can therefore supplement the stock of Q10 in the upper skin layers. In addition, it is important to keep the fluctuating amount of Q10 up and running from the inside. The substance already occurs naturally in many foods, although it is difficult to estimate to what extent. A supplementary beauty supplement[2]can support this and replenish the amount of Q10 in the body's own cells from the inside, allowing the skin to shine and feel healthy again.

Q10 and wrinkles

Skin aging and wrinkle formation are caused by many factors, including the oxidation process. Oxidation contributes to the breakdown of collagen, a substance that keeps the skin tight, fresh and young. Q10 acts as an antioxidant against these oxidation processes and prevents the breakdown of collagen.

In short, products that contain the coenzyme Q10 can help combat premature skin aging and prevent the appearance of new wrinkles.
