Specially for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin often requires a little extra attention. Taking care of sensitive skin incorrectly can have unpleasant consequences such as: irritations, redness or may even lead to hypersensitivity.

The skin is protected by a greasier outer layer, the Lipid Barrier. This layer on the one hand ensures that the skin retains moisture well and it excludes external factors such as cold on the other hand. When you have a sensitive skin, the Lipid Barrier is often weakened.

For example, when the wind outside is blowing hard, during stressful times or cold weather, the skin may become (more) irritated. Sensitive skin therefore needs more and milder care taking than other skin types. Listed below are the most important do's for caring for sensitive skin.

Cleaning

Sensitive skin can react unpleasantly to intensive cleaning. Scrubs, or products with many soap elements, can further weaken the Lipid Barrier.

For sensitive skin it is therefore wise to choose a cleansing product with a milky structure that cleanses the skin but does not dry out (further).

Does the skin still feel dry with while using such products? Then you may try to clean it with products that contain natural oils. Massage the product gently into the skin before rinsing it briefly with water, this way the tiny dirt particles in and on the skin are dissolved. Examples of oils for cleansing the skin are: rice, jojoba and camellia oil. These are not too greasy and can also remove waterproof makeup perfectly.[1]

Skincare

Is taking care of sensitive skin complex? Fortunately it doesn't have to be that way. Sensitive skin is less able to tolerate products with chemical artificial components, such as alcohol, perfume and colorants.[2]However, natural ingredients can have a very good effect on the skin. For example, care products that contain green tea, tea tree oil or allantoin. This last ingredient ensures, amongst others, that the skin is smoother and better able to retain moisture.[3]

In addition, it is important for the nurture of (sensitive) skin that the correct amount of vitamins and minerals is available every day. For example, in addition of proper skincare and nutrition, the beauty supplement from Beauty Pearl contains Aloe Vera Gel Powder, which is known for its healing and protective effect.
